As a place to learn communication arts online it combines an art-journaling approach, the best of live and time-shifted classes, and a recognition system that encourages students to finish projects, give feedback, even participate in teaching.

Learn some basic techniques of creating sound elements (word balloons, sound effects) using Adobe Illustrator while diving into wild and deep sound design theory that applies to any genre of comics!

Workshop Details

In this interactive multi-session workshop you'll learn how to construct word balloons and sound effects, how to design them so the reader will "hear" the foley work of your comic, and how to integrate them into your pages in an aesthetically pleasing way.

Whether or not you've ever used a vector illustration application before, this workshop will provide you with what you need to get started lettering in Illustrator after the first session.

Session 01 (2 hours): Picking Fonts, Designing Balloons, and Intro to Sound Effects
Session 02 (2 hours): Advanced Balloon Design, Alternate Voices, Advanced Sound Effect Design, and Integrating the Sounds into Photoshop

Audience: Beginner

Requirements: Common Lean Into Art Requirements + Adobe Illustrator (version 7 or above)

Duration: Two sessions, two hours each. One 2-hour lab. Six hours of programming in total.
